ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the Webster University women's soccer team was back in action when they played host to the Washington (Mo.) University Bears for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by a final score of 2-0 to fall to 4-5-1 on the season. With the win, the Bears improve to 4-1-5 on the year.\
The Gorloks were outshot 23-10 in the game and put six shots on target compared to 10 from the Bears. The Bears also led in the corner count as they finished with nine while Webster did not record any.
Webster came out in the first half and had a tough time keeping possession. The Bears got on the board in the 19
th minute of the game and held a 1-0 lead at the break.
The Gorloks picked it up to start the second half but a goal just 44 seconds into the period gave the Bears a 2-0 advantage. Webster had a couple chances to score in the second half, including a deflection off the crossbar from Grace Rodger, but were unable to capitalize as the Bears closed out the game to solidify the match.
Taryn Banfield was in goal tonight for the Gorloks as she recorded a season high eight saves in the match.
The Gorloks will return to action on Saturday, October 1
st when they host the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers for a SLIAC matchup. This game will serve as Senior Day for the women's soccer team and prior to the start of the contest we will honor the seniors for their hard work and dedication to the program. The game is set to start at 1 p.m. at WWT Soccer Park.
