ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's soccer team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Panthers by a final score of 5-0 to improve to 5-5-1 on the year and 2-2-1 in the SLIAC. With the loss, the Panthers fall to 3-4-2 on the season and 2-4 in conference play.
This was a milestone win for the Gorloks as it was the programs, and Head Coach
Luigi Scire's, 350
th win. The program started in 1999 and the team has won 12 or more games every year with the exception of the COVID shortened season.
Prior to the start of the match, the Gorloks honored the seven seniors on the team for their hard work and dedication to the program.
Reaghan Young,
Jordan Bilyeu,
Jordan Lande,
Heather Jones,
Taryn Banfield,
Suzan Georges, and
Mackenzie O'Neal were all recognized.
The Gorloks outshot the Panthers 35-1 and put 18 of their shots on target. They also led in the corner count as they finished with seven while the Panthers finished with one.
Mackenzie O'Neal got the scoring going for the Gorloks as she found the back of the net for the third time this season in the 17
th minute of the game off an assist from
Mya Stegen. Webster was back at it again in the 40
th minute when
Riley Wilder received a pass from
Payton Harting before blasting a shot past the keeper and into the back of the net for her first career goal.
After taking a 2-0 lead into the locker room,
Grace Rodgers added to the Gorloks lead less then a minute into the second half. With her back turned to the goal, Rodgers was able to volley the ball over her head and into the back of the net for her fifth tally of the season.
Reaghan Young had the assist for the Gorloks.
Webster picked up two more goals in the game including the sixth of the season from
Jordan Lande on off an assist from
Abbey Poe.
Emily Buchholz closed out the scoring as she found the back of the net in the 81
st minute off an assist from
Jordan Bilyeu.
Taryn Banfield was in goal for the Gorloks as she did not record a save in her 23
rd career shutout.
The Gorloks will return to the pitch on Monday, October 3
rd when they host the Blackburn (Ill.) College Beavers for a rescheduled game that was originally scheduled on Wednesday, September 21
st. The game will start with 30:44 remaining in the first half with the Gorloks leading 1-0. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
