Moore Jr. Breaks All-Time Blocks Record in Win

EUREKA, Ill. – The Webster University men's basketball team was back in action this evening when they traveled to Eureka, Illinois, to take on the Eureka (Ill.) College Red Devils for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Red Devils by a final score of 67-59 to improve to 7-8 on the season and 5-0 in SLIAC play. With the loss, the Red Devils fall to 5-11 on the season and 3-2 in conference play.

Webster went 29-for-70 (41.4%) from the floor and 1-for-16 (6.3%) from behind the arc. They outrebouned the Red Devils by a final count of 50-44 with 16 rebounds coming on the offensive end. Webster forced Eureka to turn the ball over 11 times and turned those turnovers into 14 points on the other end of the floor. The Gorloks also dished out 11 assists in the game.

In the first half of the game, both sides came out and had a tough time scoring the ball early as the score was tied at seven after six minutes of action. The Red Devils settled in over the next few minutes and went on a 6-0 run to take a 13-7 advantage with just under 12 minutes to play in the period. Webster battled back and tied the score at 15, but a 9-2 run from Eureka gave them a 24-17 lead with six minutes remaining. The Gorloks would cut the lead to three in the final minutes, but Eureka would push their lead back out to 35-26 at the break.

The Red Devils would come out in the second half and extend their lead to double digits in the first minute of the period. The Gorloks would pick it up as the half progressed and went on a 21-8 run over the next few minutes to take their first lead of the second half. The Red Devils would tie the score at 50 with just over nine minutes to play and the teams would go back-and-forth down the final stretch of the game. With the score tied at 59, Webster would end the game on an 8-0 run to solidify their seventh straight win and stay unbeaten in conference play.

Wynne Brown Jr. led the way for Webster as he finished with a game high 18 points to go along with seven rebounds and three assists. Nate Jones also played well as he finished with 11 points while going 4-for-5 from the field.

In addition, Karl Moore Jr. finished with 14 points, a game high 15 rebounds, and seven blocks for his fifth double-double of the season. His seven blocks put him at 129 for his career tying him with Nigel Wilcox for the most blocks in Webster men's basketball history.

The Gorloks will return home on Saturday, January 21st when they host the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 3 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
