Lancaster Scores Career High in 83-61 Win

EUREKA, Ill. – The Webster University women's basketball team was back in action this evening when they traveled to Eureka, Illinois, to take on the Eureka (Ill.) College Red Devils for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Red Devils by a final score of 83-61 to improve to 14-2 on the season and 4-1 in SLIAC play. With the loss, the Red Devils fall to 5-11 on the season and 2-3 in conference play.

Webster went 34-for-61 (55.7%) from the floor and 1-for-4 (25.0%) from behind the arc. They outrebouned the Red Devils by a final count of 37-27 with 14 rebounds coming on the offensive end. Webster forced Eureka to turn the ball over 21 times and turned those turnovers into 25 points on the other end of the floor. The Gorloks also dished out 21 assists in the game.

The Gorloks came out in the first quarter and jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first four minutes of the contest. The Red Devils answered back with a 7-0 run of their own to cut the lead to one, but another run from the Gorloks would put them up eight late in the period. Eureka scored the final five points in the quarter and Webster would take a 22-19 lead into the second.

The Gorloks picked it up to start the second quarter and would go on an 8-3 run to take a 30-22 lead with six minutes to play in the half. They continued to play well down the final stretch of the half and would end the frame on a 15-4 run to take a 45-26 lead into the locker room.

Webster carried over their momentum into the second half and extended their lead to 28 midway through the third. The Red Devils would answer with a 14-6 run to end the quarter and Webster would take a 64-44 lead into the final frame. The Gorloks would push their lead to as many as 26 in the fourth and would cruise to their 14th win of the season.

Bethany Lancaster led the way for the Gorloks as she finished with a career high 25 points while going 11-for-12 from the field and pulling down a team high six rebounds. Julie Baudendistel, Kate Rolfes, and Emily Wilson also finished in double figures as Baudendistel finished with 16 points while Wilson and Rolfes both finished with 11.

The Gorloks will return home on Saturday, January 21st when they host the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 1 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
