Gorloks and Eagles Finish Deadlocked

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Webster University men's soccer team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, to take on the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles for a SLIAC matchup. Webster and Spalding finished tied at one after 90 minutes as the Gorloks improve to 3-7-3 overall and 1-1-2 in conference play. Spalding moves to 4-5-3 on the season and 1-2-2 in the SLIAC.

Webster outshot the Golden Eagles by a final count of 16-8 and put six shot on target compared to three from Spalding. The Golden Eagles led in the corner count as they finished with seven while the Gorloks earned five.

The Gorloks got off to a great start in this one as they earned a penalty kick in the first three minutes of the game. Talha Dizdarevic took the penalty for the Gorloks as he placed his shot in the bottom left corner of the net for his sixth tally of the year. Webster forced the Spalding keeper to make four more saves in the half but were unable to capitalize on their chances as they took a 1-0 lead into the locker room.

After recording only one shot in the first half, the Golden Eagles came out in the second half and found the back of the net in the first three minutes of the period to tie the score at one. The game went back and forth as the half progressed with both teams creating chances to take the lead. However, both teams were able to keep each other out of the back of the net as the game remained tied after 90 minutes.

Luke Dillon (3-7-3) was in goal for Webster as he recorded two saves in the contest.

The Gorloks will return to the pitch on Saturday, October 24th when they host the Fontbonne (Mo.) University Griffins for a SLIAC matchup. The game will start at 3:30 p.m. at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
