Gorloks Shutout Golden Eagles in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Webster University women's soccer team was back in action this evening when they traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, to take on the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles for a SLIAC matchup. Webster defeated Spalding by a final score of 2-0 to improve to 7-3-1 on the season and 4-0 in the SLIAC. With the loss, the Golden Eagles drop to 3-6-2 on the year and 2-3 in conference play.

Webster outshot the Golden Eagles by a final count of 24-5 and put 14 shots on target compared to two from Spalding. The Golden Eagles led in the corner count as they finished with five while the Gorloks earned three.

The Gorloks came out in the first half of the game and controlled the tempo early. They were able to put three shots on target in the half forcing the Spalding keeper to make three saves. However, they were unable to find the back of the net and the game remained scoreless at the break.

In the second half of the game, neither side was able to break into the scoring column for the first 25 minutes of the period. Payton Montana got the Gorloks on the board in the 71st minute as she scored her third of the season off a cross from Malaya Blakely. Blakely then extended Webster's lead to 2-0 in the 80th minute when she was able to score her seventh of the year. Mackenzie Sundhausen had the assist for the Gorloks, her second of the year.

Courtney Haneline (7-3-1) was in goal tonight for Webster as she recorded two saves in her fifth solo shutout of the season.

The Gorloks will return to the pitch on Saturday, October 24th when they host the Fontbonne (Mo.) University Griffins for a SLIAC matchup. The game will start at 1 p.m. at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
