COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Webster University volleyball team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Columbus, Mississippi, to take on the Fontbonne (Mo.) University Griffins and the Mississippi University for Women Owls for a SLIAC tri-match. The Gorloks split the tri-match as they fell to Fontbonne in three sets (23-25, 17-25, 23-25) and then bounced back to beat the Owls in three sets (25-19, 25-20, 25-16) to improve to 11-10 on the season and 8-2 in SLIAC play.
In their first match of the day, Webster recorded 35 kills on 104 attacks for a .183 attacking percentage. They added four service aces, four blocks, 31 assists, and 41 digs. Fontbonne finished with 41 kills on 114 attacks for a .237 attacking percentage.
Webster came out in the first set of the match and found themselves tailing 7-3 early in the game. They battled back and cut the lead to one, but a 10-5 run from the Griffins put them up 21-15 late in the set. Webster would answer with a 7-1 run of their own to tie the score at 22, but the Griffins ended the game on a 3-1 run of their own to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
After dropping the second set 25-17, Webster came out in the third set and jumped out to a 14-7 lead. The Griffins answered by going on a 9-2 run to tie the score at 16 and held a 22-20 lead late in the set. Webster would tie the score at 22, but the Griffins ended the game on a 3-1 run to solidify the sweep.
Alyssa Jones and
Tyler Ramstack led the attack for Webster as they both finished with seven kills.
Delaney Demman and
Ellie Biedenstein ran the offense for Webster as Demman finished with a team high 16 assists while Biedenstein added 10. Demman also recorded seven digs to go along with a team high 14 digs from
Lauren Borik.
In their second match of the day, Webster finished with 45 kills on 124 attacks for a .218 attacking percentage. They added seven service aces, five blocks, 42 assists and 55 digs. The Owls ended with 25 kills on 113 attacks for a .106 attacking percentage.
Webster came out in the first set and jumped all over the Owls as they held an 8-3 lead early. MUW would answer back and tie the score at 10, but a 9-5 run from Webster put them up 19-15 late in the game. The Gorloks would pick up the final points of the set to take a 1-0 match advantage.
In the second set, Webster found themselves trailing 13-8 midway through the game. They battled back and tied the score at 15, and then ended the set on a 10-5 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the final set, the Gorloks found themselves trialing 12-7 early. The battled back and tied the score at 13 and then went on a 12-3 run to end the game to solidify the sweep.

Tyler Ramstack, and
Olivia Powell led the attack for Webster as Jones finished with a match high 12 kills while Ramstack and Powell both added nine.
Delaney Demman ran the offense for Webster as she recorded a match high 22 assists.
Lauren Borik led the team defensively with 16 digs.
The Gorloks return to the court on Thursday, October 26
th when they host the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
