GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Webster University women's soccer team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Greenville, Illinois, to take on the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Panthers by a final score of 1-0 to improve to 9-3-1 on the season and 6-0 in SLIAC play. With the loss, the Panthers drop to 7-6-3 on the season and 6-2 in conference play.
Webster outshot the Panthers 12-7 in the match and put five shots on target compared to one from Greenville. The Gorloks also led in the corner count as they had five while Greenville finished with three.
Webster played a great first half as they played excellent defense and outshot the Panthers 10-0 in the frame. They got on the board in the 30
th minute of the contest to take a 1-0 in the game.
Jennifer Munger had the goal for Webster as a blocked shot from
Malaya Blakely bounced to Munger in front of the goal before she knocked it into the back of the net for her second tally of the season. The Gorloks tried to get a second before the break but the game would remain 1-0 at halftime.
The Panthers turned it up to start the second half and recorded five shots in the first 22 minutes of the period. They hit the post in the 76
th minute but the Gorloks were able to keep them out of the back of the net for the entirety of the game to stay unbeaten in conference play.
Courtney Haneline (9-3-1) was the starting keeper for Webster as she recorded one save in her seventh shutout of the season.
The Gorloks will return to the pitch on Tuesday, October 24
th when they host the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers for their final home game of the regular season. The game will kick-off at 5 p.m. at WWT Soccer Park.
