Gorloks Clinch Share of Regular Season Title

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's soccer team was back in action this evening when they played host to the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Panthers by a final score of 5-1 to improve to 10-3-1 on the season and 7-0 in SLIAC play. With the loss, the Panthers drop to 2-11 on the year and 2-5 in the SLIAC.

With the win tonight, the Gorloks have clinched a share of the SLIAC Women's Soccer Regular Season Title for the 16th time in program history. In addition, they have earned the top seed in the SLIAC Championships and will have home field advantage throughout the tournament.

The Gorloks outshot the Panthers 37-4 in the game and put 17 shots on target compared to three from Principia. They also led in the corner count as they had eight while Principia finished with two.
Webster came out flying in the first half as they scored four goals in the first 21 minutes of the period. Abbey Poe got the scoring going as she found the back of the net for the third time this season in the fourth minute of the game. Mackenzie Sundhausen and Payton Montana extended the lead to three as Sundhausen scored her second of the year in the 13th minute while Montana finished off her fourth of the year in the 15th minute. Grace Rodgers scored the final goal of the half for Webster as she scored her seventh of the season in the 22nd minute. Angie Calabrese (2) had two assists in the half while Isabella Dickneite (2) and Jordan Bilyeu (1) each had one.

Angie Calabrese added to her great game to start the second half as she scored in the 50th minute to extend the Webster to lead to 5-0. Jordan Bilyeu had the assist on the goal, her second of the game.

The Gorloks continued to play well as the half progressed but were unable to extend their lead in the period. Principia was able to cut the lead to 5-1 in the final eight minutes of the game, but the Gorloks were able to close them out down the stretch to solidify the win.

Courtney Haneline (10-3-1) was the starting keeper for Webster as she recorded two saves in her 10th win of the year.

The Gorloks will be back in action on Saturday, October 28th when they travel to Batesville, Arkansas, to take on the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots for their final game of the regular season. The game is set to start at 1 p.m.
