Gorloks Complete Unbeaten SLIAC Season

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Webster University women's soccer team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Batesville, Arkansas, to take on the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Scots by a final score of 8-0 to improve to 11-3-1 on the season and 8-0 in conference play. This marks the 11th time the Gorloks have finished their season with a perfect SLIAC record.

With the win today, the Gorloks have solidified sole possession of their 16th SLIAC Regular Season Title. This marks the teams first SLIAC Regular Season Title since they shared the title with Greenville (Ill.) University in 2019 and their first sole championship since 2018. The team has solidified the top seed in the SLIAC Tournament and will host their semifinal match on Thursday.

Webster outshot Lyon 24-6 in the contest and put 15 shots on goal compared to one from the Scots. Webster also led in the corner count as they had five while Lyon did not have any.

The Gorloks got on the board early in this one as they scored in the seventh minute of the game to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Grace Rodgers had the goal for Webster as she received a ball from Malaya Blakely running up the middle of the field before chipping the Scots keeper and finding the side netting for her eighth goal of the year. Emily Buchholz extended the Gorloks lead to two in the 32nd minute as the ball bounced to her at the top of the box before she found the back of the net for the second time this year. Webster would outshoot the Scots 13-2 in the half and take a 2-0 lead into the locker room.

Webster continued to dominate in the second half and were able to add six goals in the frame. Grace Rodgers finished off her second of the game in the 46th minute to extend the Webster lead to 3-0. Payton Montana pushed the lead to 4-0 just seven minutes later when she scored her fifth of the year in the 53rd minute of the game. Rodgers completed her hat trick just a minute later when she scored her 10th of the year to give Webster a 5-0 advantage. Malaya Blakely (9) added two more goals for Webster and Jennifer Munger (3) added one to complete the 8-0 win.

Courtney Haneline (11-3-1) was the starting keeper for Webster as she recorded one save in her eighth solo shutout of the season.

This marks the end of the regular season for the Gorloks. They have won the SLIAC Regular Season Title for the 16th time in program history and have earned the top seed in the SLIAC Women's Soccer Tournament. They will host the SLIAC Semifinals on Thursday, November 2nd.
