BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Webster University men's soccer team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Batesville, Arkansas, to take on the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots for their final game of the regular season. The Gorloks fell to the Scots by a final score of 3-2 to drop to 6-9-3 on the season and 4-3-2 in the SLIAC. With the win, Lyon improves to 10-5-1 on the season and 7-1-1 in conference play.
Webster was outshot 8-4 in the contest and put three shots on target compared to seven from Lyon. The Scots also led in the corner count as they had nine while Webster had three.
In the first half of the game, the Gorloks had a tough time getting anything going as the Scots controlled most of the possession. Lyon found the back of he net in the 21
st minute of the game and kept the Gorloks off the board to took a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
Webster picked it up to start the second half and were able to tie the game in the 62
nd minute.
Alex DeBourge had the goal for Webster as he finished off a corner kick from
Dalton Sperle for his second goal of the season. The Gorloks were back at it again just four minutes later as
Amar Mujezinovic found the back of the net for the fourth time this season in the 66
th minute. The Lyons responded with two unanswered goals over the next 11 minutes and held off the Gorloks down the stretch to solidify the win.
Luke Dillon (6-9-3) was the starting keeper for Webster in this one as he recorded four saves in the contest.
This marks the end of the regular season for the Gorloks. They have qualified for the SLIAC Tournament and will play in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, October 31
st. The time, place, and opponent for the game has not yet been announced.
