Gorloks Advance to SLIAC Semifinals

iST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's soccer team was back in action this evening when they played host the Westminster (Mo.) College Blue Jays for the SLIAC Men's Soccer Championship Quarterfinals. The fourth seeded Gorloks defeated the fifth seeded Blue Jays by a final score of 3-0 to advance to the SLIAC Men's Soccer Championship Semifinals. With the loss, Westminster's season comes to an end with a 5-10-2 overall record.

The Gorloks outshot the Blue Jays 23-6 in the game and had 12 shots on target compared to four from Westminster. Webster also led in the corner count as they finished with two while the Blue Jays had one.

Webster came out in the first half and dominated the possession from the start. They forced the Blue Jays keeper to make seven saves in the half but were unable to find the back of the net until the 44th minute of the period. Dalton Sperle (2) had the goal for Webster as he corralled a long pass from Talha Dizdarevic before beating his defender and sliding it past the Westminster keeper to give the Gorloks a 1-0 lead at the break.

The Gorloks carried over their momentum into the second half and forced the Westminster keeper to make a couple big saves early in the period. They continued to push the tempo and were able to extend their lead to 2-0 in the 66th minute of the game. Amar Mujezinovic had the goal for the Gorloks as he was able to finish off a pass from Luke Walsh for his fifth goal of the year. Andy Mujezinovic put the game away in the 89th minute as he scored his first of the season the season to solidify the Gorloks spot in the semifinals. Guillermo Soto had the assist, his second of the year.

Luke Dillon (7-9-3) was the starting keeper for Webster in this one as he recorded four saves in his fourth solo shutout of the season.

The Gorloks will advance to the SLIAC Men's Soccer Semifinals to take on the top seeded Fontbonne (Mo.) University Griffins on Thursday, November 2nd. The game will take place at Pattonville High School at a time that has not yet been announced.
