ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's soccer team was back in action this evening when they played host to the Washington (Mo.) University Bears for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by the Bears by a final score of 2-0 to fall to 3-6-1 on the season. With the win, the Bears move to 4-4-1 on the season.
The Gorloks were outshot 18-5 in the contest and put four shots on target compared to eight from the Bears. The Bears also led in the corner count as they finished with six while Webster had two.
The Gorloks came out in the first half of the game and had a tough time keeping possession early. The Bears were able to take advantage and found the back of the net in the 14
th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Webster forced the WashU keeper to make two saves in the half, but the Bears would take a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
The Gorloks picked it up to start the second half, but a second goal from the Bears in the 69
th minute extended their lead to 2-0. Webster tried to get back into the game in the final 20 minutes but were unable to find the back of the net as the Bears closed them out down the stretch to solidify the win.
Luke Dillon (3-6-1) and
Sriram Chidambaram split time in goal for Webster as Dillon recorded five saves while Chidambaram finished with one.
The Gorloks will return to the field on Friday, October 6
th when they travel to Eureka, Illinois, to take on the Eureka (Ill.) College Red Devils for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 5 p.m.
