EUREKA, Ill. – The Webster University men's soccer team was back in action this evening when they traveled to Eureka, Illinois, to take on the Eureka (Ill.) College Red Devils for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks fell to the Red Devils by a final score of 2-1 to drop to 3-7-1 on the season and 1-1 in SLIAC play. With the win, the Red Devils move to 4-4-3 on the year and 2-0-1 in conference play.
Webster was outshot 15-12 in the game with both teams putting five shots on target. Eureka led in the corner count as they had five while Webster finished with four.
The Gorloks came out in the first half and found themselves trailing in the first eight minutes of the game. Webster created several scoring chances in the first half but were unable to capitalize as the Red Devils would take a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
Webster came out in the second half and turned up the pressure. They were able to tie the game in 72
nd minute as
Carlos Llamas received a ball at the top of the box before beating several defenders and finding the back of the net for his first goal this season. The game remained tied for the next 18 minutes, but the Red Devils scored in the final 30 seconds of the game to solidify the win.
Luke Dillon (3-7-1) was the starting keeper for Webster as he recorded three saves in the game.
Webster returns to the pitch on Sunday, October 8
th when they host the Mississippi University for Women Owls for a SLIAC matchup. This game will serve as Senior Day for the Gorloks and prior to kick-off we will honor the seniors on the team. Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m. at WWT Soccer Park.
