Gorloks Defeat MUW on Senior Day

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's soccer team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Mississippi University for Women Owls for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Owls by a final score of 2-0 to improve to 6-3-1 on the season and 3-0 in conference play. With the loss, the Owls drop to 3-5 on the year and 2-2 in the SLIAC.

Prior to kick-off, the Gorloks celebrated the seniors on the team for their hard work and dedication to the program. Kelly Bowen, Jennifer Munger, Angie Calabrese, and Abbey Poe were all recognized.

Webster outshot the Owls 23-3 in the game and put 12 shots on target compared to one from MUW. Webster also led in the corner count as they had 12 while the Owls did not have any.

The Gorloks got off to a great start in the game as they scored in the 17th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Jordan Bilyeu had the goal for Webster as she received the ball in the middle of the field from Jennifer Munger before finding the bottom left corner of the net for her second goal of the season. Grace Rodgers added to Webster's lead just eight minutes later as she finished off a pass from Abbey Poe for her sixth of the year. The Gorloks tried to get one more before the half but were unable to capitalize as the score remained 2-0 at the break.

The Gorloks continued to play well in the second half of the game as they controlled the possession for most of the period. They were able to add to their lead in the 88th minute of the game as Hope Dedic found the back of the net for the second time this season. Sophie Thoman and Isabelle Schumacher recorded assists on the play. Webster never let the Owls back in the game and cruised to their third SLIAC win of the season.

Courtney Haneline (6-3-1) was in goal for the Gorloks as she recorded one save in her fourth solo shutout of the season.

The Gorloks will return to the field on Wednesday, October 11th when they travel to Louisville, Kentucky, to take on the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles for a SLIAC matchup. The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. EST.
