Gorloks Stay Unbeaten With Win Over Centre

T. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's basketball team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to Centre (Ky.) College for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Colonels by a final score of 86-74 to improve to 11-0 on the season. With the loss, Centre drops to 9-2 on the season.

The Gorloks went 33-for-63 (52.4%) from the floor and 3-for-8 (37.5%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Colonels by a final count of 37-33 with 16 rebounds coming on the offensive end. They forced Centre to turn the ball over 17 times in the game and turned those turnovers into 17 points on the other end of the floor. Webster also dished out 12 assists while racking up nine steals.

Webster came out in the first quarter of the game and jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first few minutes. The Colonels settled in as the quarter progressed and went on an 18-10 run down the final stretch of the frame to take an 18-16 lead into the second. Webster tied the score at 18 to start the second, but an 11-5 run from the Colonels would put them up 29-23 with four minutes remaining in the half. Centre would extend their lead out to as many as eight in the half before taking a 38-33 lead into the locker room.

The Gorloks came out of the locker room and went on an 11-4 run in the first three minutes of the period to take a 44-42 lead in the game. Centre quickly responded with a 7-0 run of their own to push their lead back out to five, but the Gorloks would tie the score at 55 before finding themselves trailing 58-56 heading into the final frame. Webster would outscore the Colonels 30-16 in the final quarter and cruised to their 11th straight win to start the season.

Webster had five players finish in double figures including Emily Wilson who finished with a game high 19 points to go along with seven rebounds. Julie Baudendistel and Bethany Lancaster also played well as Baudendistel finished with 17 points and seven rebounds while Lancaster added 14 points and game high eight rebounds. Lastly, Nysa Gilchrist and Jordyn Grimes each finished with 10 points.

Webster will return to the court on Thursday, January 4th when they host the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 5:30 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
