CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – The Webster University women's tennis team kicked off their spring season this afternoon when they played host to the Mississippi University for Women Owls for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Owls by a final score of 8-1 to improve to 5-2 on the season.
The Gorloks got off to a great start in doubles as they swept two out of three matches.
Erin Brezovar and
Bailey Higgins won #1 doubles over Sarah Kackley and Maggie Etheridge by a final score of 8-0 while
Maddie Mena and
Chloe Daughtry defeated Macie Manasco and Kelis Griffin in #3 doubles by a final score of 8-0.
Emma Ferguson and
Kylie Chitwood also won their match in #2 doubles over Mallory Parker and Karen Calzadilla by a final score of 8-3.
The Gorloks finished off the win over the Owls by taking five out of six singles matches.
Erin Brezovar defeated Sarah Kackley in #1 singles with back-to-back scores of 6-1.
Emma Ferguson took down Macie Manasco in #2 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
Kylie Chitwood won #4 singles over Mallory Parker by final scores of 6-2 and 6-1.
Maddie Mena won #5 singles over Karen Calzadilla by final scores of 6-2 and 6-3. Lastly,
Bailee Pineda swept Kelis Griffin in #6 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-0.
The Gorloks will return to the court tomorrow, February 18
th when they host the Hendrix (Ark.) College Warriors for a nonconference matchup. The match is set to start at 2 p.m. at the Webster Groves Recreational Complex.
