ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's tennis team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Hendrix (Ark.) College Warriors for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by the Warriors by a final score of 6-3 to fall to 5-3 on the season. With the win, the Warriors improve to 2-4 on the year.
The Gorloks got off to a good start in the doubles portion of the match as
Erin Brezovar and
Bailey Higgins won #1 doubles over Avery Stephens and Campbell Christensen by a final score of 8-3.
Emma Ferguson and
Kylie Chitwood fell in #2 doubles to Josie Leffingwell and Emma Self by a final score of 8-3. Lastly,
Maddie Mena and
Bailee Pineda fell in #3 doubles to Eleanor Burks and Ayden Huckelbury by a final score of 8-4.
Erin Brezovar and
Emma Ferguson picked up two points for the Gorloks in the singles portion of the match as Brezovar defeated Eleanor Burks in #1 singles by final scores of 6-4, 4-6, and 7-6 (5) while Ferguson defeated Emma Self in #2 singles by final scores of 6-3 and 7-5. In addition,
Bailey Higgins fell in #3 singles by final scores of 6-4 and 6-3,
Kylie Chitwood dropped #4 singles by final scores of 6-2 and 6-1,
Maddie Mena fell in #5 singles by final scores of 6-3 and 6-4, and
Bailee Pineda fell in #6 singles by final scores of 6-4 and 6-4.
The Gorloks are back in action on Friday, February 24
th when they host the College of the Ozarks for a nonconference matchup at Forest Lake Tennis Club in Chesterfield, Missouri. The match is set to start at 1 p.m.
