Gorloks Fall to Adrian in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The #13 Webster University baseball team was back in action this afternoon when they took on the Adrian (Mich.) College Bulldogs in the BSC Classic at Birmingham-Southern (Ala.) College. The Gorloks were defeated by the Bulldogs by a final score of 9-4 to drop to 1-1 on the season. With the win, Adrian improves to 1-0 on the year.

The Gorloks put together nine hits in the contest. They got on the board early in the game as they rallied for three runs in the bottom of the first to jump out to a 3-0 lead. The Bulldogs answered back with three runs of their own in the top of the second, and then went on to score two runs in each of the next three innings to give themselves a 9-3 advantage midway through the game. The Gorloks were able to pick up one final run in the bottom of the seventh, but that was all they would get as the Bulldogs picked up the final outs of the game to solidify the win.

Carter Hunt (0-1) was the starting pitcher in this one as he allowed four hits and five earned runs while striking out three in 2.0 innings. J.T. Miller, Joel Arsenault, Jack Mackert, and Cade Gebhard pitched in relief of Hunt as the four combined to allow six hits and three earned runs in the final 7.0 innings of the game.

Parker Wielt, Nathaniel Martinez, and Zach Goodman all recorded multi-hit games as Wielt went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, Martinez went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Goodman went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Malik Wirges also recorded an RBI and scored a run while Ben Swords finished with a run scored.

The Gorloks will return to the diamond tomorrow, February 26th when they take on the #4 Birmingham-Southern (Ala.) College to close out the BSC Classic. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
