ST. CLAIR, Ill. – The Webster University women's tennis team was back in action on Saturday when they traveled to St. Clair, Illinois, to take on the McKendree (Ill.) University Bearcats for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by the Bearcats by a final score of 6-1 to drop to 6-4 on the season.
The Gorloks fought hard in the doubles but the Bearcats took two out of three matches to solidify the point.
Maddie Mena and
Bailee Pineda had the lone doubles win for Webster as they won #3 doubles over Bailey Grigg and Anna Marison by a final score of 6-2.
Erin Brezovar and
Bailey Higgins fell in #1 doubles by a final score of 6-3 while
Emma Ferguson and
Kylie Chitwood dropped #2 doubles by a final score of 6-2.
In singles,
Bailee Pineda picked up the lone point for the Gorloks. She won #6 singles over Bailey Grigg by final scores of 6-2 and 6-1. In addition to Pineda,
Erin Brezovar dropped #1 singles by final scores of 6-2 and 6-1,
Emma Ferguson fell in #2 singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-2,
Bailey Higgins lost #3 singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-0,
Kylie Chitwood dropped #4 singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-0, and
Maddie Mena fell in #5 singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-3.
The Gorloks will take a short break and be back in action for their spring break trip in Hilton Head, South Carolina, from Friday, March 8
th to Saturday, March 18
th. The spring break schedule has not yet been finalized.
