ORANGE, Calif. – The Webster University baseball team was back in action this evening when they traveled to Orange, California, to take on the Chapman (Calif.) University Panthers for the first game a three game series. The Gorloks were defeated by a final score of 4-1 to fall to 2-5 on the season. With the win, the Panthers improve to 5-7 on the year.
The Gorloks were held to seven hits in the contest. The Panthers scored a run in the bottom of the first and three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-0 lead in the game. Webster struggled to get anything going throughout the game but a sacrifice fly from
Ben Swords in the top of the ninth would cut the Panthers lead to three. Chapman was able to pick up the final outs of the game and solidified their fifth win of the season.
Alek Elges (1-1) was the starting pitcher in this one as he allowed six hits and four earned runs while striking out five in 6.0 innings pitched.
J.T. Miller and
Caleb Zbrozek pitched in relief as the two combined to allow just two hits while striking out two in the final 2.0 innings of the game.
Malik Wirges led the way at the plate as he went 3-for-4 in the contest.

Nate Mosqueda recorded the other four hits for Webster with Swords driving in the Gorloks only run.
The Gorloks will finish up their three game series against Chapman tomorrow, March 12th in Orange, California. The doubleheader is set to start at 1 p.m. PST.
