Orange, Calif. – The Webster University baseball team was back in action this afternoon when they played the final two games of their three-game series against Chapman (Calif.) University. The Gorloks split the doubleheader with the Panthers as they won the first game by a final score of 5-4 in 15 innings and then fell in the second game by a final score of 2-1. With the split, the Gorloks move to 3-6 on the season.
The Gorloks put together 15 hits in their first game of the day. The Panthers got off to a quick start as they scored a run in the bottom of the first and a run in the bottom of the second to take a 2-0 lead. The Gorloks settled in as the game progressed and rallied for three runs in the top of the third to take their first lead of the game. The Panthers answered back with two runs in the bottom half of the frame and held a 4-3 advantage for most of the contest. After five scoreless innings, Webster was able to tie the score in the top of the ninth to send the game to extras. The game remained tied through the next five innings, but a sacrifice fly in the top of the 15
th from
Sam Turilli solidified the win for Webster.
Jordan Smevoll was the starting pitcher in this one as he allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out two in 3.1 innings.
Ben Kowalski pitched in relief of Smevoll as he allowed just four hits while striking out eight in 8.0 scoreless innings.
Joel Arsenault (2-0) came in to pitch the final 3.2 innings as he allowed just four hits while striking out three.
Parker Wielt led the way at the plate as he went 4-for-7 with an RBI.
R.J. LaRocco and
Ben Swords also recorded multi-hit games as LaRocco went 2-for-7 with a run scored and an RBI while Swords went 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.
Sam Turilli recorded the final RBI for Webster.
The Gorloks put together five hits in their second game of the day. After four scoreless innings to start the game, the Panther got on the board first in the bottom of the fifth to take a 1-0 lead. Webster tied the score at one in the top of the eighth after a sacrifice fly from
Ben Swords, but a run from the Panthers in the bottom of the ninth would solidify the win for Chapman.
Carter Hunt was the starting pitcher for the Gorloks as he allowed four hits and one earned run while striking out four in 5.2 innings pitched.

Adam Hill (0-1), and
Caleb Zbrozek pitched in relief as the four combined to allow two hits and one earned run while striking out two in the final 2.1 innings of the game.
Parker Wielt led the way at the plate as he went 2-for-3 in the game.
Nathaniel Martinez,
Nate Mosqueda, and
R.J. LaRocco recorded the other three hits for Webster while
Ben Swords recorded the lone RBI.
The Gorloks will return to the diamond on Wednesday, March 15
th when they travel to Redlands, California, to take on the University of Redlands (Calif.) First pitch is set for 3 p.m. PST.
