Gorloks Drop Two in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Webster University softball team was back in action this afternoon when they continued play in the Tucson Invitational in Tucson, Arizona. The Gorloks were defeated in both of their games today as they fell to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse by a final score of 6-4 before falling to Central (Iowa) College by a final score of 8-0. With the sweep, Webster drops to 1-9 on the year.

The Gorloks put together 10 hits in their first game of the day against UW-La Crosse. The Eagles got on the board first in the top of the first as they rallied for three runs to take an early lead. They added two more runs in the top of the third and held a 5-0 advantage midway through the game. Webster cut the lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the fifth, but another run from the Eagles in the top of the sixth gave them a 6-3 lead late in the game. The Gorloks scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to two, but the Eagles picked up the final outs of the game to solidify the win.

Kaley Adzick (0-4) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed six hits and five earned runs while striking out three in 3.0 innings. Ainsley Hinz and Emma Steltzer pitched in relief of Adzick as the two combined to allow four hits while striking out one in the final 4.0 innings of the game.

Jaelin Holdaway led the way at the plate as she went 3-for-4 with a run scored. In addition, Kaley Adzick, Reese Waggoner, and Kaelyn Kearney each added an RBI.

In their second game against Central, the Gorloks strung together just two hits in the contest. The Dutch opened the game with a four-run rally in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. They added a run in the bottom of the fourth, a run in the bottom of the fifth, and two runs in the bottom of the sixth to solidify the win.

Kaley Adzick (0-5) started this game as well as she allowed four hits and three earned runs in 1.1 innings. Ainsley Hinz and Cheyenne Dickens pitched in relief as the two combined to allow nine hits and three earned runs while striking out two in the final 4.0 innings.

Katie Croxall and Madi Stichling recorded the only two hits for Webster.

The Gorloks will return to the field on Tuesday, March 14th when they continue play in the Tucson Invitational. Webster will take on Dickinson (Pa.) College at 11 a.m. PST and the University of Wisconsin-La Cross at 1:30 p.m. PST at Lincoln Park North Complex in Tucson, Arizona.
