Gorloks Fall to Ranked Teams in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Webster University softball team was back in action this afternoon when they continued play in the Tucson Invitational in Tucson, Arizona. The Gorloks dropped both games on the day as they fell to #RV Coe (Iowa) College by a final score of 16-2 (5 inn.) and to #16 Concordia (Wis.) University by a final score of 9-1 (5 inn.) to drop to 1-13 on the season.

The Gorloks were held to just two hits in their first game of the day. Coe got off to a quick start as they scored 10 runs in the top of the first to take an early lead. The Gorloks bounced back and scored two runs of their own in the bottom of the first, but four runs in the top of the third and two runs in the top of the fourth would solidify the win for the Kohawks.

Cheyenne Dickens (0-2) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed one hit and three earned runs. Emma Steltzer and Ainsley Hinz pitched in relief as the two combined to allow 13 hits and six earned runs while striking out two in the final 5.0 innings of the game.

Kaley Adzick led the way at the plate as she went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Paige Thomas picked up the other base hit for the Gorloks while Madi Stichling and Kaelyn Kearney both scored a run.

In their second game of the day, the Gorloks were held to three hits in the contest. After a scoreless first inning, the Falcons got on the board in the bottom of the second as they rallied for six runs to take an early lead. The Gorloks answered with a run in the top of the fourth after an RBI double from Madi Stichling, but the Falcons would score three runs over the next two innings to solidify the win.

Ainsley Hinz (1-2) was the starting pitcher for the Gorloks as she allowed four hits and five earned runs while striking out one in 1.0 inning. Kaley Adzick pitched in relief as she allowed seven hits and four earned runs in the final 3.2 innings of the game.

Madi Stichling led the way at the plate as she went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Katie Croxall and Aven Ragwar-Hayes recorded the other two hits for Webster.

The Gorloks will wrap up play in the Tucson Invitational tomorrow, March 16th when they take on Dickinson (Pa.) College at 9 a.m. PST and Rochester (N.Y.) Institute of Technology at 11 a.m. PST.
