HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Webster University women's tennis team was back in action this morning when they wrapped up their spring break trip with a matchup against the University of Lynchburg (Va.). The Gorloks, who came into this match unbeaten on their spring break trip, were defeated by the Hornets by a final score of 7-2 to drop to 9-5 on the season. With the win, the Hornets improve to 5-4 on the year.
The Gorloks had a tough time in doubles as they dropped all three matches.
Erin Brezovar and
Bailey Higgins fell in #1 doubles to Grace Teefey and Elizabeth Teefey by a final score of 8-2.
Kylie Chitwood and
Emma Ferguson fell in #2 doubles to Lara Karrass and Alexa Hardesty by a final score of 8-5. Lastly,
Maddie Mena and
Bailee Pineda fell in #3 doubles to Ashley Hair and Reese McAtee by a final score of 8-4.
In singles,
Bailey Higgins and
Bailee Pineda were able to pick up two points for the Gorloks. Higgins won #3 singles over Lara Karrass by final scores of 6-4 and 6-2. Pineda won #6 singles over Jordan Ottaviano by final scores of 4-6, 6-4, and 10-5. In addition,
Erin Brezovar fell in #1 singles by final scores of 6-2 and 7-6 (4),
Emma Ferguson fell in #2 singles by final scores of 6-2 and 6-1,
Kylie Chitwood dropped #4 singles by final scores of 6-4, 4-6, and 10-4, and
Maddie Mena fell in #5 singles by final scores of 6-2, 2-6, and 10-8.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Friday, March 24
th when they host Kaskaskia (Ill.) College for a nonconference matchup. The match is set to start at 1 p.m. at Webster Groves Recreational Complex.
