ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's tennis team was back in action today when they played host to Baker (Kan.) University and the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy (Mo.) for a doubleheader. The Gorloks won both matches on the day as they defeated Baker by a final score of 5-4 and UHSP by a final score of 6-3. With the two wins, Webster improves to 11-5 on the year.
The Gorloks got off to a slow start in their first match of the day as the Wildcats took two out of three in doubles.
Maddie Mena and
Bailee Pineda picked up the lone point for Webster in doubles as they won #3 doubles over Cierra McWilliams and Clare Longfoss by a final score of 8-5.
Webster picked it up in the singles portion of the match as they notched four points to solidify the win.
Erin Brezovar won #1 singles over Carol Feraz-Porto by final scores of 6-2 and 6-2.
Kylie Chitwood won #4 singles over Cambrie Frame by final scores of 6-3 and 6-4.
Maddie Mena took #5 singles over Clare Longfoss by final scores of 6-2 and 6-1. Lastly,
Bailee Pineda won #6 singles over Cierra McWilliams by final scores of 6-4 and 6-2.
The Gorloks got off to a great start in their second match of the day as they took two out of three in doubles. After dropping #1 doubles,
Emma Ferguson and
Kylie Chitwood took #2 doubles over Charlie Dunajcik and Ainsley Fortschneider by a final score of 8-1.
Maddie Mena and
Bailee Pineda recorded the second point as they won #3 doubles by forfeit.
Webster then went on to win four out of six matches in singles. After dropping #1 and #2 singles,
Bailey Higgins was able to pick up the first win for the Gorloks as she won #3 singles by final scored of 6-3 and 6-1.
Kylie Chitwood won #4 singles over Charlie Dunajcik by final scores of 6-0 and 6-2. In addition,
Maddie Mena and
Bailee Pineda won their singles matches by forfeit.
The Gorloks will return to the court tomorrow, March 26
th when they host Westminster (Mo.) College and Kaskaskia (Ill.) College. The Gorloks will play Westminster twice with a 10 a.m. start and a 12 p.m. start. They will then play Kaskaskia at 2 p.m. All matches will take place at Webster Groves Recreational Complex.
