GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Webster University women's tennis team kicked off conference play yesterday as they traveled to Greenville, Illinois, to take on the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers for a UMAC matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by the Panthers by a final score of 5-4 to drop to 13-8 on the season and 0-2 in conference play. With the win, the Panthers move to 6-11 on the season and 1-0 in the UMAC.
The Gorloks got off to a great start in doubles as they took two out three points.
Erin Brezovar and
Bailey Higgins won #1 doubles as they defeated Mireia Birosta and Addison Brannon by a final score of 8-5.
Kylie Chitwood and
Emma Ferguson won #2 doubles as they defeated Callie Adkins and Natalia Higashi by a final score of 8-6.
Maddie Mena and
Bailee Pineda were unable to complete the doubles sweep as they fell to Stephanie Kamp and Emily Buratovich by a final score of 8-6.
In singles, Greenville took four out of six matches to solidify the win. After dropping #1 and #2 singles,
Bailey Higgins was able to score a point in #3 singles as she defeated Callie Adkins by final scores of 3-6, 6-3, and 11-9. The Gorloks were unable to get a win in either #4 or #5 singles but were able to score their fourth point in #6 singles as
Bailee Pineda defeated Emily Buratovich by final scores of 7-6 and 6-2.
The Gorloks will return to the courts on Friday, April 14
th when they host the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers for a UMAC matchup. The match is set to start at 6:30 p.m. at the Webster Groves Recreational Complex.
