Gorloks Sweep Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Webster University softball team was in action on Friday as they traveled to Terre Haute, Indiana, to take on the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Ind.) Fightin' Engineers for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks swept the doubleheader as they won the first game by a final score of 6-3 and the second game by a final score of 11-2 (5 inn.) to improve to 9-14 on the season.

Webster got off to a great start in the first game of the day as they rallied for four runs in the top of the first to take an early 4-0 lead. Rose-Hulman would answer with three runs over the next two innings and the Gorloks would hold a 4-3 lead early. Webster added two more runs in the top of the fifth and closed out the Fightin' Engineers down the stretch to solidify the win.

Kaley Adzick (2-7) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed five hits and three earned runs while striking out four in 5.0 innings. Ainsley Hinz picked up her first career save as she did not allow a hit while striking out two in the final 2.0 innings of the game.

The Gorloks put together 14 hits in the game. Jaelin Holdaway and Kaelyn Kearney both had great games at the plate as Holdaway went 3-for-4 with an RBI while Kearney went 3-for-4 with an RBI. In addition, Reese Waggoner went 2-for-2 with two RBI, Paige Thomas went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Sidney Holtz went 2-for-4.

Webster got off to another fast start in the second game of the day as they rallied for four runs in the top of the first to take an early lead. Rose-Hulman answered with a run in the bottom of the first, but a two-run homerun from Katie Croxall (1) in the top of the second gave Webster a 6-2 lead in the game. Rose-Hulman would bring another run around to score in the bottom of the third, but two runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth solidified the win for the Gorloks.

Reese Waggoner pitched for Webster as she allowed just five hits while striking out five in 5.0 innings pitched.

Webster tallied 13 hits in the second game of the day. Katie Croxall led the way as she went 3-for-3 with five RBI and her first homerun of the season. In addition, Jaelin Holdaway went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Madi Stichling went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Kaelyn Kearney went 1-for-3 with an RBI, Paige Thomas went 2-for-2 with two RBI, Sidney Holtz went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Lucy St. John went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The Gorloks are back in action on Monday, April 17th when they travel to Carlinville, Illinois, to take on the Blackburn (Ill.) College Beavers for a nonconference doubleheader. The first game is set to start at 5 p.m. with the second to follow.
