Gorloks Sweep Blackburn on the Road

CARLINVILLE, Ill. – The Webster University softball team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Carlinville, Illinois, to take on the Blackburn (Ill.) College Beavers for a nonconference doubleheader. The Gorloks swept the doubleheader as they won the first game by a final score of 14-0 and the second game by a final score of 13-0 to improve to 11-14 on the season.

The Gorloks got off to a great start in the first game of the day as they rallied for five runs in the top of the first, including a solo homerun from Kaley Adzick (1), to take an early 5-0 lead. They added three more runs in the second, and then rallied for another five runs in the top of the third to take a 13-0 lead in the game. They brought one more run across in the top of the fourth and closed out the Beavers down the stretch to solidify the win.

Reese Waggoner (4-1) was the starter in this one as she allowed just one hit while striking out two in 3.0 scoreless innings. Ainsley Hinz pitched in relief as she allowed just two hits while striking out two in the final 2.0 innings of the game.

Webster rallied for 20 hits in the contest. Paige Thomas led the way for Webster as she went 3-for-3 with a three-run homerun (1). In addition, Kaley Adzick went 3-for-5 with two RBI, Madi Stichling went 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Emma Bovaconti went 3-for-4 with two RBI while Jaelin Holdaway, Lucy St John, Kaelyn Kearney, Sidney Holtz, and Alyssa Lyell each added an RBI.

The Gorloks carried over their momentum into the second game as they rallied for eight runs through the first two innings to take an 8-0 lead. They added two more runs in the third, one run in the fourth, and two runs in the fifth to solidify their seventh straight win.

Kaley Adzick (3-7) was in the circle to start as she struck out two while not allowing a hit in 2.0 innings. Cheyenne Dickens and Madi Stichling pitched in relief as the two combined to allow two hits while striking out four in 3.0 innings.

Webster recorded 16 hits in the second game of the day. Kaley Adzick led the way at the plate as she went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Additionally, Katie Croxalll went 1-for-4 with two RBI, Lucy St. John went 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Aven Ragwar-Hayes went 1-for-3 with three RBI while Ainsley Hinz and Kaelyn Kearney each recorded an RBI.

The Gorloks will return to the diamond on Friday, April 21st when they travel to Louisville, Kentucky, to take on the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles for a SLIAC doubleheader. The first game is set to start at 3 p.m. EST with the second game to follow.
