LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Webster University softball team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Louisville, Kentucky to take on the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles for a SLIAC doubleheader. The Gorloks were swept by the Golden Eagles as they dropped the first game by a final score of 8-4 and the second game by a final score of 6-4 to drop to 11-16 on the season and 5-3 in SLIAC play. With the sweep, Spalding moves to 18-8 on the year and 7-1 in conference play.
The Gorloks got off to a great start in their first game of the day as 
Madi Stichling hit a two-run double in the top of the second to give Webster a 2-0 lead. The Golden Eagles tied the score in the bottom of the second and then rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-2 lead. Webster cut the lead to 6-4 in the top of the fifth, but two more runs from Spalding in the bottom of the sixth solidified the win.
Reese Waggoner (4-2) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed eight hits and four earned runs while striking out three in 3.0 innings. 
Ainsley Hinz pitched in relief as she allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out one in the final 3.0 innings in the game.
Webster rallied for nine hits in the contest. 
Kaley Adzick and 
Paige Thomas both recorded multi-hit games as Adzick went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Thomas went 2-for-3 with a run scored. In addition, 
Madi Stichling went 1-for-3 with two RBI and 
Kaelyn Kearney added an RBI to round out the top performers for the Gorloks.
The Gorloks got on the board first in the second game of the day as 
Paige Thomas hit an RBI single to give Webster a 1-0 lead. The Golden Eagles tied the score at 1 in the bottom of the third, but an RBI single from 
Sidney Holtz in the top of the fourth would give Webster a 2-1 lead. Spalding retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth as they rallied for five runs to give themselves a 6-2 lead late in the game. Webster would cut the lead to 6-4 in the top of the seventh, but the Golden Eagles would pick up the final outs of the game to solidify the win.
Kaley Adzick (3-8) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed six hits and five earned runs while striking out four in 4.1 innings. 
Ainsley Hinz and 
Cheyenne Dickens pitched in relief as the two combined to allow four hits and one earned run while striking out one in the final 1.2 innings of the game.
Webster tallied 12 hits in the contest. 
Katie Croxall led the way at the plate as she went 3-for-4 with two runs scores. In addition, 
Paige Thomas went 2-for-4 with an RBI, 
Kaelyn Kearney went 1-for-4 with an RBI, 
Reese Waggoner went 1-for-2 with an RBI, and 
Sidney Holtz went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
The Gorloks will return home tomorrow, April 23
rd when they host the Eureka (Ill.) College Red Devils for a SLIAC doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. with the second game to follow at St. Joseph's Academy.
