Gorloks Advance in UMAC Tournament

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's tennis team was back in action this afternoon when they competed in the UMAC South Division Tennis Tournament. The Gorloks won their semifinal match by a final score of 5-1 over Greenville (Ill.) University before falling in the final to Principia (Ill.) College by a final score of 5-1. The Gorloks move to 15-11 on the season.

The Gorloks got off to a great start in their semifinal match as they took two out of three in doubles. After dropping #1 doubles, Emma Ferguson and Kylie Chitwood were able to get the Gorloks on the board as they defeated Callie Adkins and Sarah Brannon by a final score of 8-6 in #2 doubles. Maddie Mena and Bailee Pineda picked up the second point for Webster as they defeated Stephanie Kamp and Emily Buratovich in #3 doubles by a final score of 8-1.

The Gorloks went on to win all three singles matches that were completed to solidify the win. Bailey Higgins won #3 singles as she defeated Callie Adkins by scores of 6-3 and 6-4. Kylie Chitwood won #4 singles as she defeated Stephanie Kamp by scores of 6-2 and 6-1. Bailee Pineda completed the win for Webster as she won #6 singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-1.

In their second match of the day, Webster was able to pick up one point in doubles. Maddie Mena and Bailee Pineda recorded the point as they defeated Kelsie Huss and Ruth Hummell in #3 doubles by a final score of 8-3.

The Gorloks were unable to score in singles as only #2, #3, and #4 singles finished. Emma Ferguson fell in #2 singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-2, Bailey Higgins fell in #3 singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-2, and Kylie Chitwood fell in #4 singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-2.

With the split this afternoon, the Goroloks have earned a spot in the four-team UMAC Tennis Tournament next weekend in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Gorloks will take on the #1 team from the North Division on Friday, April 28th at the Baseline Tennis Center on the University of Minnesota campus starting at 6:30 p.m.
