Gorloks Split With Greenville

GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Webster University softball team was back in action this evening when they traveled to Greenville, Illinois, to take on the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers for a SLIAC doubleheader. The Gorloks split the doubleheader as they won the first game by a final score of 3-2 (8 inn.) and then fell in the second game by a final score of 4-0 to move to 14-17 on the season and 8-4 in SLIAC play. With the split, Greenville moved to 17-12 on the year and 7-3 in the conference.

In their first game of the day, neither side was able to get anything going offensively through the first three innings. The Gorloks were finally able to break the deadlock in the top of the fourth as Paige Thomas launched her second homerun of the season to give Webster a 1-0 lead. The Panthers tied it up in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extras, but RBI doubles from Jaelin Holdaway and Paige Thomas in the top of the eighth gave Webster a 3-1 lead in the game. Greenville would cut the lead to one in the bottom half of the inning, but the Gorloks would pick up the final outs to solidify the win.

Kaley Adzick (4-8) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed six hits and one earned run while striking out two in her third complete game of the season.

Webster tallied seven hits in the contest. Paige Thomas led the way at the plate as she went 3-for-4 with two RBI. In addition, Jaelin Holdaway went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Kaley Adzick went 1-for-3, and Madi Stichling went 1-for-4.

In their second game of the day, Webster was unable to get anything going offensively. The Panthers scored four runs in the bottom of the second and never let the Gorloks back in the game as they closed them out down the stretch to solidify the split.

Ainsley Hinz (3-3) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed three hits and two earned runs while striking out one in 1.2 innings. Reese Waggoner pitched in relief as she allowed one hit while striking out five in 4.1 scoreless innings.

The Gorloks were held to four hits in the contest. Jaelin Holdaway, Kaley Adzick, Paige Thomas, and Madi Stichling recorded the hits for Webster.

The Gorloks are back at home tomorrow, April 26th when they host the Westminster (Mo.) College Blue Jays for a SLIAC doubleheader. The first game is set to start at 3 p.m. with the second to follow at St. Joseph's Academy.
