ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's tennis team was back in action over the weekend as they played a match on Saturday against Missouri Valley College and a match on Sunday against Millikin (Ill.) University. The Gorloks dropped both matches as they fell to Missouri Valley by a final score of 5-4 and then to Millikin by a final score of 9-0. Webster now moves to 14-7 on the season.
In their first match of the weekend against Missouri Valley, the Gorloks got off to a great start as they took two out of three in doubles.
Erin Brezovar and
Bailey Higgins got things going as they defeated Milene Marciniuk and Anais Gerard in #1 doubles by a final score of 8-4. After dropping #2 doubles,
Maddie Mena and
Bailee Pineda were able to win #3 doubles over Nikoleta Aleksic and Tristan Liebenberg by a final score of 8-4.
The Gorloks then went on to take two out of six in singles.
Erin Brezovar picked up the win in #1 singles as she defeated Queralt Carbo by final scores of 7-5, 1-6, and 10-2.
Maddie Mena picked up the second win for Webster as she defeated Nikoleta Aleksic in #5 singles by final scores of 7-6 (7), 1-6, and 10-4.
Kylie Chitwood nearly scored a fifth point for the Gorloks but fell in a highly competitive match in #4 singles to Anais Gerard by final scores of 2-6, 6-2, and 6-10.
In their second match of the weekend, the Gorloks had a tough time getting anything going against Millikin.
Erin Brezovar and
Bailey Higgins came close to winning in #1 doubles but fell to Alexandra Ristfeldt and Katarina Carlberg by a final score of 8-6.
Emma Ferguson and
Kylie Chitwood fell in #2 doubles by a final score of 8-1 while
Maddie Mena and
Bailee Pineda fell in #3 doubles by a final score of 8-3.
Webster then went on to get swept in the singles portion of the match.
Erin Brezovar fell in #1 singles by final scores of 6-1 and 6-2.
Emma Ferguson fell in #2 singles by final scores of 6-3 and 6-2.
Bailey Higgins dropped #3 singles by final scores of 6-1 and 7-5.
Kylie Chitwood fell in #4 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-0.
Maddie Mena dropped #5 singles by final scores of 3-6, 7-5, and 5-10. Lastly,
Bailee Pineda dropped #6 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-4.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Wednesday, April 12
th when they travel to Greenville, Illinois, to take on the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers for a UMAC matchup. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m.
