ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University softball team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers for a SLIAC doubleheader. The Gorloks split the doubleheader as they lost the first game by a final score of 16-4 and won the second game by a final score of 7-6 to move to 5-14 on the season and 3-1 in SLIAC play. With the split, Greenville moves to 10-9 on the season and 2-1 in the conference.
In their first game of the day, Webster put together 11 hits. The Panthers got on the board first as they scored a run in the top of the first to take an early 1-0 lead. The Gorloks answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, but a homerun from the Panthers in the top of the second tied the score at two. The Panthers broke the tie in the top of the fourth and then rallied for six runs in the top of the fifth to take a 9-2 lead in the game. Webster cut the lead to 9-4 in the bottom of the fifth, but two runs in the top of the sixth and five runs in the top of the seventh solidified the win for Greenville.
Kaley Adzick (0-7) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed 12 hits and five earned runs while striking out three in 4.2 innings.
Reese Waggoner and
Ainsley Hinz pitched in relief as the two combined to allow nine hits and four earned runs while striking out three in the final 2.1 innings of the game.
Kaley Adzick led the way at the plate as she went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Katie Croxall also had a multi-hit game as she went 2-for-4 with a run scored. In addition,
Madi Stichling went 1-for-4 with an RBI and
Paige Thomas went 1-for-4 with an RBI to round out the top performers for the Gorloks.
In their second game of the day, Webster tallied 12 hits in the contest. After finding themselves down 1-0 after the top of the first,
Jaelin Holdaway got the Gorloks on the board in the bottom half of the inning as she blasted her second homerun of the season to tie the score at one. Webster rallied for three runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead, but two runs from the Panthers in the top of the fourth cut the lead to 4-3. Greenville would tie the score in the top of the fifth, but a run from the Gorloks in the bottom of the sixth would give Webster a 5-4 lead heading into the seventh. The Panthers would score two runs in the top of the seventh to retake the lead, but a two-run walk off single from
Reese Waggoner in the bottom of the seventh solidified the win.

Cheyenne Dickens (2-2) pitched in relief as she picked up the final out for the Gorloks in the top of the seventh.

Jaelin Holdaway had great games at the plate as they both recorded three hits and two RBI. Holdaway went 3-for-3 with two RBI while Waggoner went 3-for-4 with two RBI. In addition,
Paige Thomas went 1-for-4 with two RBI and
Madi Stichling added an RBI.
The Gorloks return to the field on Wednesday, April 12
th when they travel to Fulton, Missouri, to take on the Westminster (Mo.) College Blue Jays for a SLIAC doubleheader. The first game is set to start at 3 p.m. with the second game to follow.
