ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's soccer team opened their season this evening as they played host to the Maryville (Tenn.) University Scots for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by the Scots by a final score of 3-1 to drop to 0-1 on the season.

Webster was outshot 23-12 in the contest and put four shots on target compared to nine from the Scots. Maryville also led in the corner count as they finished with 12 compared to five from Webster.

The Gorloks came out in the first half of the game and found themselves trailing 1-0 after the first 16 minutes of action. They picked it up as the half progressed and were able to tie the game in the 21^st minute of the contest. Malaya Blakely had the goal for Webster as she received a pass from Payton Montana at the top of the box and blasted it past the keeper for her first career goal.

In the second half of the game, the Scots came out and applied heavy pressure to the Gorloks. They were able to break the tie in the 70^th and then added a third goal in the 85^th minute to solidify the win.

Courtney Haneline (0-1) was in goal for Webster as she recorded six saves in her collegiate debut.

The Gorloks will return to the pitch on Wednesday, September 6^th when they host the Millikin (Ill.) University Big Blue for a nonconference matchup. Kick off is set for 7 p.m. at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
