FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Webster University women's tennis team was back in action yesterday when they traveled to Franklin, Indiana, to take on Trine (Ind.) University and Franklin (Ind.) College for a nonconference doubleheader. The Gorloks swept the doubleheader as they defeated Trine by a final score of 8-1 and Franklin by a final score of 7-2 to improve to 3-0 on the year.
In their first match of the day, the Gorloks were able to sweep Trine in doubles.
Journee White and
Kylie Chitwood defeated Elina Locane and Alexis Maloney in #1 doubles by a final score of 8-3.
Bailey Higgins and
Maddie Mena won #2 doubles over Emilee Bassett and Haley Straub by a final score of 8-1. Lastly,
Carlie Barban and
Chloe Daughtry won #3 doubles over Kennedy Outwater and Lillian Trinh by a final score of 8-3.
Webster carried their momentum over into singles and were able to take four out of six matches.
Journee White defeated Elina Locane in #1 singles by final scores of 6-1 and 6-3.
Kylie Chitwood won #3 singles over Alexis Maloney by final scores of 5-7, 6-2, and 10-8.
Bailee Pineda defeated Kennedy Outwater in #5 singles by final scores of 6-2 and 6-4.
Evie Schuetz finished off the points for Webster as she defeated Lillian Trinh in #6 singles by final scores of 6-2 and 6-2.
The Gorloks got their second match of the day against the Grizzlies started off by sweeping doubles.
Journee White and
Kylie Chitwood won #1 doubles over Maecee Terhune and Ailyn Hendricks by a final score of 8-3.
Bailey Higgins and
Maddie Mena won #2 doubles over Sydney Carson and Brenna Atchinson by a final score of 8-3.
Bailee Pineda and
Evie Schuetz completed the sweep with a forfeit win in #3 doubles.
Webster went on to win five out of six in singles.
Journee White defeated Ailyn Hendricks in #1 singles by final scores of 6-1 and 6-2,
Kylie Chitwood won #3 singles over Sydney Carson by final scores of 6-1 and 6-4,
Maddie Mena won #4 singles over Brenna Atchinson by final scores of 6-1 and 6-3,
Bailee Pineda defeated Samantha Schick in #5 singles by final scores of 6-4 and 6-4, and
Chloe Daughtry won #6 singles by forfeit.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Saturday, September 16
th when they host Anderson (Ind.) University for a nonconference matchup. The match is set to start at 4 p.m. at Webster Groves Recreational Complex.
