Gorloks Comeback Bid Falls Short

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's soccer team was back in action this evening when they played host to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks fell to the Pioneers by a final score of 2-1 to drop to 2-2 on the season. With the win, Platteville improves to 3-0-1 on the year.

Webster was outshot by Platteville by a final count of 18-8 and had two shots on target compared to eight from the Pioneers. Platteville also led in the corner count as they had nine while Webster had six.

The Gorloks got off to a rough start in the game as the Pioneers were able to score just 32 seconds into the match to take a 1-0 lead. Webster had a tough time getting anything going as the half progressed and the Pioneers would pick up a second goal with five minutes remaining in the period to take a 2-0 lead into the locker room.

Webster picked it up to the start the second half and were able to cut the lead to 2-1 in the first nine minutes of the frame. Isabella Dickneite had the goal for Webster as she finished off a corner from Grace Rodgers for her first tally of the season. The Gorloks continued to play well as the half progressed but were unable to find the equalizer as the Pioneers held them off down the stretch solidify win.

Courtney Haneline (2-2) was in goal for Webster as she recorded six saves in the contest.

The Gorloks will return to the pitch on Sunday, September 17th when they host the Beloit (Minn.) College Buccaneers. The match is set to start at 12 p.m. at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
