Gorloks Drop Match to Illinois College

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's soccer team was back in action tonight when they played host to the Illinois College Blue Boys for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks fell to the Blue Boys by a final score of 2-0 to fall to 2-4-1 on the year. With the win, Illinois College improves to 5-3-1 on the year.

The Gorloks were outshot 21-13 in the game and had four shots on target compared to nine from the Blue Boys. Illinois College also led in the corner count as they had seven while the Gorloks finished with three.

In the first half of the game, the Gorloks came out and played well from the start. They had nine shots in the half, including four on target, but were unable to capitalize as the Blue Boys keeper made several tough saves. Webster played tough defensively throughout the half and the game remained scoreless at the break.

It did not take long for Illinois College to get on the board in the second half as they were able to convert on a penalty kick just six minutes into the period to take a 1-0 lead. They would add a second goal later in the half and never let the Gorloks back in the game as they held them off down the stretch to solidify the win.

Luke Dillon (2-4-1) was in goal tonight for Webster as he recorded seven saves in the match.

The Gorloks will return to the pitch on Friday, September 22nd when they travel across the river to Edwardsville, Illinois, to take on NCAA Division I opponent Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. The game is set to kick-off at 7 p.m.
