EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The Webster University men's soccer team was back in action this evening when they traveled across the river to take on the Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville Cougars for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks fell to the Cougars, who are an NCAA Division I program, by a final score of 3-1 to fall to 2-5-1 on the season. With the win, SIUE improves to 5-0-2.
Webster was outshot 26-2 in the game. SIUE also led in the corner count as they finished with 10 while the Gorloks had one.
The Gorloks came out in the first half of the game and had a tough time keeping possession. The Cougars got on the board in the 30
th minute as they converted a penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Webster was unable to put a shot on target in the half and the Cougars would take a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
The Gorloks picked it up to start the second half and were able to find the back of the net in the 53
rd minute to tie the score at one.
Nick Thomas had the goal for Webster as he received a thru ball from
Carlos Llamas and found the left corner of the net for his first goal of the year. The Cougars would score just 30 seconds later, and then added a third goal late in the game, to solidify the win.
Luke Dillon (2-5-1) was the keeper for Webster as he recorded eight saves in the game.
The Gorloks will return the field on Tuesday, September 26
th when they host the Blackburn (Ill.) College Beavers for their first SLIAC match of the season.
