Gorloks Drop Road Match to Rose-Hulman

TERRA HAUTE, Ind. – The Webster University volleyball team was back in action this evening when they traveled to Terre Haute, Indiana, to take on the Rose-Hulman institute of Technology (Ind.) Fightin' Engineers for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were swept in three straight sets (16-25, 18-25, 17-25) to drop to 3-7 on the year. With the win, Rose-Hulman improves to 6-6 on the year.

The Gorloks were held to 25 kills on 120 attacks for a .125 attacking percentage. They added one service aces, five blocks, 25 assists, and 73 digs. The Fightin' Engineers finished with 50 kills on 147 attacks for a .245 attacking percentage.

Webster came out in the first set and found themselves trailing 10-5 early in the game. Rose-Hulman continued to play well as the set progressed and pushed their lead to as many as 11 in the frame. They never let the Gorloks back in the set and took a 1-0 lead in the match.

Webster picked it up to start the second set and held a 6-4 advantage early. The Fightin' Engineers quickly tied the score at six and then went on a 10-5 run to take a 16-11 lead midway through the game. The Gorloks would cut the lead to four, but Rose-Hulman would pick up the final points to go up two sets in the match.

In the third set, Rose-Hulman opened the set on a 6-2 run to take an early lead. Webster would cut the lead to one, but another run from the Fightin' Engineers would give them a 15-10 lead midway through the set. The Gorloks would claw their way back into the game and cut the lead to 18-15, but Rose-Hulman was able to close them out down the stretch to solidify the sweep.

Alyssa Jones led the attack for Webster as she finished with a team high eight kills. Grace White and Delaney Demman led the team defensively as White recorded a team high five blocks while Demman added a team high 15 digs. Demman also added a team high nine assists while Cassie Gray posted 14 digs and Lauren Borik finished with 10 digs.

The Gorloks will return to the court on Friday, September 22nd when they travel to Monmouth, Illinois, to take on the Monmouth (Ill.) College Fighting Scots for a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 6 p.m.
