MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Webster University volleyball team was back in action this evening when they traveled to Monmouth, Illinois, to take on the Monmouth (Ill.) College Fighting Scots for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by the Fighting Scots in three sets (17-25, 20-25, 24-26) to fall to 3-8 on the year. With the win, Monmouth improves to 5-8 on the season.
The Gorloks finished the match with 29 kills on 130 attacks for a .046 attacking percentage. They added four service aces, 31 assists, six blocks, and 71 digs. The Fighting Scots ended with 35 kills on 136 attacks for a .147 attacking percentage.
In the first set of the match, both sides came out and exchanged points early. With the score tied at 10, Monmouth went on a 7-1 run and held a 16-11 lead midway through the game. Webster would cut the lead to four, but the Fighting Scots would close them out down the stretch to take a 1-0 match lead.
After dropping the second set by a final score of 25-20, the Gorloks came out in the third set and hung with Monmouth from the start. With the score tied at 12, Webster went on a 4-1 run to take a 16-13 lead in the set and force the Fighting Scots to call a timeout. Monmouth battled back as the set progressed and tied the score at 22 before ending the set on a 5-3 run to solidify the sweep.
Madison Katz led the team offensively as she finished with a team high six kills.
Delaney Demman ran the offense for the Gorloks as she recorded a team high 13 assists.
Cassie Gray,
Lauren Borik, and
Megan Zablonski led the team defensively as Gray finished with a team high 12 digs, Borik added 11 digs, and Zablonski finished with 10 digs.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Tuesday, September 26
th when they travel to Jacksonville, Illinois, to take on the Illinois College Lady Blues for a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 6 p.m.
