Gorloks Drop Third Straight Match

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Webster University volleyball team was back in action this evening when they traveled to Jacksonville, Illinois, to take on the Illinois College Lady Blues for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were swept by the Lady Blues in three straight sets (18-25, 8-25, 17-25) to drop to 3-9 on the season. With the win, Illinois College improves to 7-8 on the season.

The Gorloks finished the match with 24 kills on 105 attacks for a .114 attacking percentage. They added three service aces, two blocks, 23 assists, and 34 digs. Illinois College ended the match with 46 kills on 123 attacks for a .333 attacking percentage.

In the first set of the match, Webster came out and found themselves trailing 9-4 early in the game. They battled back and tied the score at 13, and then took their first lead midway through the set. With the score tied at 15, the Lady Blues ended the game on a 10-3 run to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

After falling in the second set by a final score of 25-8, the Gorloks turned it around to start the third set as they jumped out to a quick 5-3 lead. The Lady Blues tied the score at five, and then went on a 9-3 run to take a 14-8 advantage in the set. Webster would cut the lead to three, but the Lady Blues would pull away to solidify the sweep.

Alyssa Jones led the attack for Webster as she finished with a team high nine kills. Ellie Biedenstein ran the offense for Webster as she recorded a team high 12 assists. Megan Zablonski led the team defensively with seven digs. In addition, Grace White finished with six kills, Cassie Gray added five digs, and Delaney Demman finished with seven assists.

The Gorloks will return to the court on Thursday, September 28th when they host the Fontbonne (Mo.) University Griffins for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
