ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's tennis team kicked off their season this afternoon when they played host to Illinois College at Webster Groves Recreational Complex. The Gorloks defeated Illinois College by a final score of 5-4 to improve to 1-0 on the year.
The Gorloks got off to a great start in the match as they took two out three in doubles.
Journee White and
Kylie Chitwood took #1 doubles as they defeated Michelle Magg and Lily Ingram by a final score of 8-2.
Bailey Higgins and
Maddie Mena recorded the second point for Webster as they defeated Hannah Lueke and Sabrina Ingram in #2 doubles by a final score of 8-3.
Webster went on to solidify the match after winnings three out of six in singles.
Journee White won #1 singles as she defeated Michelle Magg by final scores of 6-2 and 6-0.
Bailey Higgins won #2 singles over Hannah Lueke by final scores of 7-5 and 6-2.
Bailee Pineda scored the final point for Webster as she won #5 singles over Sabrina Ingram by final scores of 6-2 and 6-2.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Saturday, September 9
th when they travel to Franklin, Indiana, to take on Trine (Ind.) University and Franklin (Ind.) College. Webster will take on Franklin at 1 p.m. and Trine at 4 p.m. at the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.
