Men’s Soccer Secure Third Shutout Of The Season With Victory Over Blackburn

CARLINVILLE, Ill. - The Webster University men's soccer team continued SLIAC play with a road visit to Blackburn College Wednesday afternoon. The Gorloks earned a huge road victory over the Beavers by the final score of 1-0. With the victory, Webster improves to 6-4-2 overall and 3-1-2 in conference play. 

In the opening ten minutes of the match, the Gorloks attacked the offensive side of the pitch and blasted four shots led by Hayden Hatley with two while Amar Mujezinovic and Oscar Solis added one each. 

In the 13th minute, the Beavers had a great opportunity to crack the scoreless match with a shot by Brayden Smith but WU's Ty Baudendistel recorded the save. Shortly later, in the 20th minute, the Gorloks countered with a strong offensive attack and a good scoring opportunity that resulted in a shot by Noah Abraham but was saved by BC's goalkeeper Dawson Klunk. 

Five minutes later, in the 25th minute, Webster sent the ball into the attacking zone that resulted in a shot by Scott Price as the shot went out right. Both teams continued to battle between the endlines with scoreless play. In the 37th minute, the Gorloks were awarded a corner kick when Price sent in a fantastic cross to the back post that found the back of the net. 

Less than two minutes later, Blackburn was awarded a penalty kick after a foul by Webster in the box. Seconds later, BC's Johnny Perla stepped up and fired a shot to the lower right post as Baudendistel made an incredible diving save that kept the Gorloks on top at 1-0. The Gorloks and Beavers battled back-and-forth as Webster took the lead into halftime. 

In the opening minutes of the second half, the Gorloks sent the ball into the attacking zone that resulted in a shot by Luke Walsh as his shot went wide left. Shortly later, in the 55th minute, Webster had another great scoring opportunity when Logan Hazel ripped a shot on net but was saved by Klunk. 

In the 63rd minute, Blackburn had another scoring chance of their own on a shot by Marc Pierre but the shot was saved by Baudendistel. Ten minutes later, the Beavers sent the ball into Gorlok territory that resulted in a shot by Fredy Paiz that was saved by Baudendistel as the rebound shot by Grant Eugea went out.

The Gorloks held a high defensive line for the remainder of the match and did not allow a shot in the final 12 minutes of play that led to the shutout victory. 

For the match, first-year Hazel led the offensive attack with three shots while Abraham and Hatley added two each. WU's goalkeeper Ty Baudendistel recorded his first shutout of the season with four saves.

The Gorloks will host their final home match of the season on Saturday, October 19 against Lyon College starting at 3:30PM in Fenton, Missouri.
