Gorloks Fall To Vikings In Road Non-Conference Match

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Webster University volleyball team continued non-conference play with a visit to Augustana College Wednesday evening. Webster's six-match win streak came to a close and the Gorloks fell by the final score of 0-3. 

Webster got off to a slow start and faced an early 0-8 deficit when first-year Leah McGrath started the scoring with a kill. Shortly later, Megan Zablonski hammered down a kill that made the score 4-12. Moments later, the Gorloks chipped back with a 5-1 run to the set-score of 9-14. In the run, Grace White, Lauren Harms, and Alyssa Jones each added one kill. 

Late in the set, the Vikings answered with a 6-1 run to the set-score of 22-12 as the Gorlok point was a kill by White. The Gorloks responded with a 3-0 run that included a kill by Tyler Ramstack and a service ace by Eva Tarlos. However, Augustana closed out the set with a 3-0 run that took the set.  

The Gorloks started the second set in a 1-3 deficit but countered with a 6-1 run that gained the advantage at 7-4. In the run, Tarlos recorded back-to-back service aces which was followed up with kills by McGrath and Jones. 

Webster and Augustana continued to battle and exchanged points to a Gorlok advantage at 14-9. Shortly later, Webster added a 3-0 run started on a kill by Ellie Biedenstein which was followed up with a service ace by Delaney Morio to the 18-12 advantage. However, the Vikings closed out the set with a 13-1 run. 

The Gorloks and Vikings opened the final set exchanging points to a tie at two apiece. Moments later, Augustana erupted for a 10-3 run to the set-score of 15-5 that included a kill by Maggie Stanford

Webster chipped back in the set with a 5-1 run to the set-score of 10-16. In the run, Harms added two kills with McGrath added one. It was capped off with a service ace by Biedenstein. However, the Vikings countered with a 7-1 run that made the set-score to 11-23. The Gorloks scored their final points of the match on a kill by McGrath and a service ace by Morio.

For the match, White led the offensive attack with six kills while McGrath had four. Morio recorded her 13th double-digit assist mark of the season with 10. Defensively, Lewis led with 12 digs while McGrath collected 10 as White recorded two blocks. 

The Gorloks will revert back to conference play with a visit to Blackburn College on Wednesday, October 23 starting at 7:00PM in Carlinville, Illinois.
