Men’s Soccer Secure First SLIAC Victory Of The Season With Defeat Over Eureka

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University men's soccer team continued conference play and secured their first SLIAC victory of the season by defeating Eureka by the final score of 2-1. With the victory, the Gorloks improve to one-game over .500 with an overall record of 4-3-1 that includes a conference record of 1-0-1.

In the first 10 minutes of action, Webster attacked the offensive side of the pitch that resulted in a shot by Luke Walsh. Moments later, the Gorloks were awarded back-to-back corner kicks. On the second corner kick attempt, in the 12th minute, the ball got batted around in the box when Scott Price ripped a shot in the back of the net for the early 1-0 lead. That goal by Price marks his sixth goal of the season and sixth in the past five matches.

However, the Red Devils countered with a goal by Troy Arries in the 21st minute that tied the match at one apiece. Six minutes later, in the 27th minute, the Gorloks answered with a strong offensive attack that resulted in a goal by Hayden Hatley that was assisted by Andy Mujezinovic. For the remainder of the first half, Webster and Eureka battled back-and-forth with scoreless play as the Gorloks took the 2-1 advantage at the break.

Early in the second half, the Red Devils put together a strong offensive attack that resulted in a save by Luke Dillon. In the 56th minute Andy Mujezinoivc had a great opportunity to add an insurance goal for the Gorloks but his shot was saved by Eureka's goalkeeper Brayton Strawkas.

The Gorloks and Red Devils battled back-and-forth for the remainder of the match as both teams had at least one scoring opportunity. Webster held a very strong defensive back line that kept Eureka off the scoreboard for the victory.

For the match, Hatley and Price led the offensive attack with three shots each while Talha Dizdareic, Danny Nusinovic, and Walsh contributed two apiece. Defensively, Dillon recorded four saves and a scoreless second half.
