Men's Soccer Extend Unbeaten Streak To Four Matches With Victory Over MUW

COLUMBUS, Miss. - The Webster University men's soccer team traveled to the state of Mississippi and faced off against the Owls of Mississippi University for Women for a conference match. The Gorloks extended their unbeaten streak to four matches with a dominant 6-1 victory over the Owls. 

In the match, WU's Jack Thompson, Noah Abraham, Amar Mujezinovic, and Frank Homa each netted their first goal of the season. With the victory, Webster improves to 7-4-3 overall while posting a 4-1-3 conference record. 


In the third minute of the match, the Gorloks sent the ball into the attacking box that resulted in a shot by Amar Mujezinovic that went out high. Moments later, the Gorloks sent the ball back into the box and were awarded a penalty kick after a foul by MUW in the box. Fifth-year Mujezinovic stepped and made the penalty kick for the early 1-0 lead. 

Less than three minutes later, the Gorloks once again attacked the offensive side of the pitch when Oscar Solis found Scott Price near the box when Price blasted a shot in the back of the net for the 2-0 lead as Solis was credited with the assist. Shortly later, in the ninth minute, Webster sent the ball into the attacking zone once again that resulted in a goal by Abraham for the 3-0 advantage. 

In the 13th minute, the Gorloks attacked the Owls defending territory that resulted in a goal by Homa. Less than a minute later, MUW countered with an attacking drive that resulted in a goal by Jordan Ware which made the score 4-1. 

For the next 10 minutes of play, the Gorloks added three shots on goal but all three shot attempts were collected by MUW's goalkeeper in Antonio Romero. In the 25th minute, Webster answered with an offensive drive when Hayden Hatley ripped a shot in the net that was assisted by Thompson for the 5-1 advantage. 

Webster and MUW battled back-and-forth for the remainder of the first half that included scoreless play as the Gorloks took the four-goal lead into halftime. 

Early in the second half, the Gorloks added two shots for the match as Logan Hazel's shot went out wide when Danny Nusinovic followed up with a shot that was saved by Romero. For the next 20 minutes of action, both teams battled back-and-forth with scoreless play.

The Gorloks had another scoring opportunity in the 74th minute as the shot by Finn Rohl rattled off the topcross bar but no rebound shot was put on goal. 
The Gorloks added their final goal of the match in the 86th minute when Baris Astigarraga delivered a fantastic pass to Thompson near the box when Thompson blasted a shot in the back of the net which generated the final score.  

For the match, six different Gorloks scored a goal as Hatley led the offensive attack with four shots while Thompson added three. Webster outshot MUW 21-4 that included 13 shots on goal. Defensively, Dillon and Baudendistel split time in net as Dillon recorded two saves. 

The Gorloks will close out the 2024 regular season with a road trip to Westminster College on Wednesday, October 30 starting at 7:30PM in Fulton, Missouri.
