Gorloks Second Half Comeback Falls Just Short To Rhodes

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University men's basketball team continued non-conference play hosting the Lynx of Rhodes College Sunday afternoon in Grant Gymnasium. The Gorloks second half comeback falls just short to Rhodes by the final score of 62-56. 

The Gorloks opened this non-conference decision with a driving layup by Gabe Mccrary. Following the Mccrary basket, the Lynx took the 6-2 lead with back-to-back three-point baskets. Moments later, the Gorloks responded with a 10-2 run that took the 12-8 advantage. In the run, Jemard Sykes II recorded six points in the run that included a three-point basket while Karl Moore Jr and Justin Ugo added two points each. 

With the four-point advantage at 16-12, the Lynx answered with a 10-2 run that was eventually snapped on a layup by Ugo that generated a four-point deficit at 22-18. Immediately following the Lynx run, the Gorloks countered with a 6-0 run that took the 24-22 lead. In the run, Ugo sank a pair of free-throws while Mccrary and Moore Jr added baskets in the paint. However, the Lynx closed out the first half with a 10-1 run that generated a 33-27 deficit at the halftime break. 

Rhodes opened the second half with an 8-2 run that increased the deficit to double-digits at 41-29. Moments later, the Gorloks cut the deficit down to eight on two separate occasions with the last being a Ugo basket in the paint with 11 minutes remaining in the game. 

Three minutes later, with eight minutes to go, the Gorloks rallied behind their home crowd and cut the deficit down to three at 53-50 with a 10-2 run. In the run, Sykes recorded five additional points that included another three-point basket while Alpha Diallo and Ugo added two points each. Moore Jr capped off the run by splitting a pair of free-throws.  

Moments later, the Lynx gave the Gorloks an eight-point deficit with a 7-2 run that generated the score at 60-52. In the final two minutes of the game, the Gorloks cut the deficit down to four at 60-56 with points from Diallo and Sykes II. However, the Lynx scored a basket in the final minute of play that generated the defeat. 

For the game, three student-athletes in Sykes, Moore Jr, and Ugo recorded double-figure scoring marks led by Sykes with 14 while Moore Jr and Ugo contributed 13 points apiece. Defensively, Moore Jr recorded a game-high five blocks while Sykes collected three steals. As a team, the Gorloks outscored the Lynx 32-22 with points in the paint

The Gorloks will travel to Columbia College on Saturday, November 16 for an exhibition game starting at 3:00PM in Columbia, Missouri.
