SAUGET, Ill. – The Webster University baseball team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Titans for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by the Titans by a final score of 11-1 (7 inn.) to drop to 3-1 on the season. With the win, the Titans improve to 2-0 on the year.
After a scoreless first inning, the Titans got on the board first in the top of the second as they rallied for three runs to take an early lead. They added a run in the third, a run in the fourth, two runs in the fifth, and a run in the sixth to take an 8-0 lead in the game. The Gorloks were finally able to break into the scoring column in the bottom of the sixth when
James Theodore hit a triple and then came around to score, but three runs from the Titans in the top of the seventh solidified the win for UW-Oshkosh.
Jordan Smevoll (0-1) was the starting pitcher in this one as he allowed 10 hits and six earned runs while striking out two in 5.0 innings.
Jacob Maza pitched in relief as he allowed three hits and four earned runs while striking out one in the final 2.0 innings.
The Gorloks put together six hits in the contest.
R.J. LaRocco recorded the only RBI for the Gorloks as he went 1-for-3 in the game.
Andrew Fazio had the only multi-hit game for the Gorloks as he went 2-for-3 with a double. In addition,
James Theodore,
Parker Murrow, and
Jacob Charlson recorded the final three hits for Webster.
Webster will be back in action tomorrow, March 2
nd when they host North Park (Ill.) University and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for a nonconference doubleheader. The first game against North Park is set to start at 10 a.m. with the second game against UW-Oshkosh set to start at 4 p.m. with both games taking place at Grizzlies Ballpark in Sauget, Illinois.
