DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Webster University baseball team was back in action this afternoon when they took on Benedictine (Ill.) University for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks fell to the Eagles by a final score of 14-5 to drop to 6-4 on the year. With the win, Benedictine improves to 8-0 on the year.
The Gorloks got on the board first in this one as they scored a run in the bottom of the second to jump out to a 1-0 lead. The Eagles would answer with two runs in the top of the third, but a two-run homerun from
Nick Schumacher in the bottom of the fourth gave the Gorloks a 3-2 advantage. Benedictine would retake the lead with three runs in the top of the fifth, but another run from Webster in the bottom half of the frame would cut the Benedictine lead to 5-4 midway through the game. Benedictine would go on to outscore Webster 9-1 in the final innings to solidify the win.
Jordan Smevoll (0-2) was the starting pitcher in this one as he allowed eight hits and five earned runs while striking out nine in 5.1 innings.

Logan Birch pitched in relief as the six combined to allow seven hits and two earned runs while striking out four.
The Gorloks recorded 10 hits in the contest.
R.J. LaRocco and
Nathaniel Martinez both recorded multi-hit games as LaRocco went 3-for-4 with one RBI while Martinez went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. In addition,
Nick Schumacher went 1-for-4 with a two-run homerun (1) while
Evan Evola went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
The Gorloks will return to the diamond tomorrow, March 11
th, when they take on the Mitchell (Conn.) College for a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 4 p.m. EST.
